Focus of Centre:
To improve the quality of life and independence of disabled or elderly people by enhancing their communication and life skills through the use of computers. Offers instruction in and use of, for example: Windows Facilities, Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Digital Photo Handling, Touch Typing, Games. Help in using Clients’ own laptops is also provided.
The Clients
The Centre has Clients with many differing disabilities including: Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s Disease, Polio, Diabetes, Partial Sight and Blindness, Mental Disabilities, Hearing Disabilities. Clients attend one regular (2.5 hour ) session at the same time each week. They are not employed either being retired or unable to work due to a disability. A couple of them are volunteers in other areas of Jewish Care.
The Technology
There are 5 networked desktop PCs running XP. Each PC is housed in its own fully adaptable wheelchair accessible workstation. There is a wired Internet Connection for each PC and a wireless connection facility for laptops used by around a third of the Clients who bring in their own laptops.
Each PC also has a loudspeaker attached.
There is also a colour printer, a monochrome printer, a scanner, headphones and microphones

Staffing:
There is one Manager (3 days per week) and there are around 20 Volunteers who attend the Centre regularly for at least one session per week to support and/or instruct the Clients.
Opening hours:
The Centre is opened Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Sessions are around 2.5 hours in length
