Beaumont College (a SCOPE College)

Date centre established:

January 2002

Focus of Centre:

We have two Karten Centres at Beaumont College

Karten 1: Digital Learning Centre (15 workstations)

• Allows students to follow an extensive list of courses and achieve appropriate qualifications
• Delivers vocational training programs specifically designed for disabled people, including IT and work skills
• Is a stepping stone towards further integration and inclusion
• Enables communication and overcomes barriers
• Provides an opportunity for the College to be a specialist resource for the local disabled community who have more complex needs.

Karten 2: Beaumont Digital Arts Centre (14 Workstations)

This centre further enhances both our creative arts and technology provision in ways that reinforce pre-existing courses such as media, fine art, sculpture, basic skills and IT skills development. We aim to provide short courses that will utilise this facility for adults in the wider community to access during College holiday periods. We also feel that new courses will be stimulated such as ‘digital arts’ or ‘theatre technology’ which are not currently possible for many of our students to undertake. We expect that some alumni of Beaumont College will be able to access courses at both Further Education and Higher Education providers in the digital arts space after their exposure to these technologies at Beaumont College. We also aim to influence such ‘mainstream’ providers and demonstrate to them how students such as our can be included in subjects previously judged to be inaccessible to those with disabilities. This CTEC facility at Beaumont College aids our ability to give our students an accessible and innovative world class learning environment.

The Clients

All students have cerebral palsy or an associated condition involving some degree of physical disability and learning difficulty.  Many students have significant communication difficulties and/or sensory impairments, and many students have complex needs.

• Digital art (Adobe Photoshop etc)
• Accessible 3D modelling, 3D scanning and printing (for sculpture)
• Music and sound recording
