Focus of Centre:
To give access to IT equipment for the 70 members attending the day service so that they have opportunities to develop computer, communication and life skills. IT sessions are arranged on a one-to-one basis or in groups. A wall-mounted TV screen helps the tutor to teach small groups on specific tasks and programmes.
The Clients:
Those attending the day service have a wide range of learning and physical disabilities. The IT Centre is used for basic computing skills, accessing the internet, sending emails to family and friends, and using appropriate software around communication.
The Technology:
3 variable height and 2 fixed height workstations with touch screens on adjustable monitor arms. There are also web cams, headsets, cameras and a colour printer.
Assistive Technology:
Track ball mice and specialist intelli keyboards are available.
Staffing:
Support workers lead the sessions, as well as college tutors running specific courses on life skills. Digital Photography and film sessions are also run by external facilitators.
Opening Hours:
The Centre is open on weekdays from 9 am – 3.30 pm. There is a possibility of more flexible opening during evenings or weekends, if demand increases and individual budgets come into effect.
Partnership:
There are sessions run in partnership with local colleges, and with our day centre in Waterlooville.
