Focus of Centre
To use assistive technology to develop the communication and learning needs of the students. We also facilitate the students to access computers as part of their curriculum and to develop and increase leisure interests.
As well as being used by students at the college the Centre is available to other local groups catering for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.
The Clients
Students are aged between 18 and 25 with a range of physical and complex learning difficulties
The Technology
The newly built suite has 12 purpose-built workstations, each comprising of a fully height adjustable desk with large LCD touch monitor. All have access to a comprehensive range of special needs software and hardware, together with a high speed dedicated internet connection. The Centre also has a fully interactive 50” plasma touch screen, installed on a height-adjustable trolley. The room can be divided into three separate areas for individual tuition, one of which has a selection of communication devices such as video phones and web cams.
