Services/focus of the Karten Centre

We have two Karten areas The Karten Print shop and The Karten IT hub. Both are based in different buildings on campus and are part of our retail and business studies programme area.
The Karten print shop provides a range of transferable vocational skills running a small print business and a stationary supply and postal service to the college we currently work on internal orders and for our marketing team. During 2017 we plan to make this one of our commercial areas marketing our offer to external customers. We print on various scales from small leaflets to large banners and produce other marketing items such as t-shirts and mugs. We also provide a labeling service for our food outlets with our jar labeling equipment.
The Karten IT hub provides an interactive learning area working closely with our retail programme and Young’s farm shop supporting learners through the use of interactive touch screen computers and large interactive whiteboard enabling users connect via their own devices if they wish.

Clients

We are an independent specialist college with a focus on teaching young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. Through personalised learning Derwen College promotes the vocational, educational, social and personal development of a wide range of young people with learning difficulties and disabilities
Our students are predominantly residential with a small cohort of day students. Students follow individualised learning programmes based in one of four programme areas. We also have living and work placement programme (LWP) for students who will have completed their education and require further support to develop the skills to live and work within the community.
