Disabilities

Epilepsy, Autistic Spectrum Condition, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, acquired brain injuries, behavior difficulties, learning difficulties and non weight bearing needs

Technology used in the Karten Centre

Lighting mixing desk connected to a performance area with a selection of performance and disco lights.
Audio visual presentation equipment consisting of large screen and projector.
An audio mixing desk connected to recording and LAN broadcast equipment and a recording studio.
A video recording unit that can receive and process video feeds for digital recording.
Two Apple Macs with audio and video recording and editing software.
Broadcast quality video cameras, lighting and a green screen kit.

Assistive Technology

Students use the equipment without specific assistive technologies, individual adaptations are made where required through the use of switches or adapted user interface devices, these are specific to the student needs rather than unique to the equipment.

Karten Centre Staff

15 users currently actively use and access the Karten centre, but many more access the facility and use the space and therefor the benefit from the equipment.

Karten Centre Hours

Normal education hours are from 9:00 till 16:00 week days, term time. We provide 52 week residential care and the facility is used in the evenings and during holiday times by residential departments for student entertainment and activities.

Services offered to the Network

We are more than happy to work with any of the centres on projects and items that can be of benefit. Currently our most specific experience in relation to our Karten Centre would be in animation and green screen projects. Wider than that we have done and continue to do significant work in enterprise content management and development of web applications in SharePoint and are able to provide assistance in networking, mobile computing, infrastructure and online safety.
