The Media Suite offers a range of curriculum activities and learning opportunities for our students.
We have developed a multi-purpose media suite with state-of-the-art computer facilities and software which aims to introduce activities such as filmmaking, broadcasting, editing, music recording, marketing and journalism to our students. The software also support other curriculum areas by developing the use of multi-media with a particular emphasis on e-learning and ‘e-folio’s’.
An important aim of the project is to introduce ‘Young Epilepsy TV’. The media suite contains broadcasting facilities which can be used for streaming of student films, campus updates and playback of onsite drama performances. It would allow our students to participate in every aspect of broadcasting and production, an area of learning which they have not had access to before. This area of the activities of the media suite is still in development, but we hope to start broadcasts in 2012.
The media suite also supports the creative activities which already took place in the Nicholson hall, where it is located, such as drama performances and youth club. The suite house controls for lighting, sound and visual effects for theatrical performances which could all be operated by our students, allowing them to learn new skills in theatre production.
The media students has also used the facility setup a mini-enterprise, converting old media formats such as tape, VHS, slides, photos and LPs to digital formats for staff on campus. This activity is growing and we hope to advertise the services in the local community in future.
We have managed to secure the services of a fulltime Media Technician for the following academic year to fully develop the use of the centre and hope to be able to continue this post in the future.
