Services/focus of the Karten Centre
Our centre offers our students the opportunity to extend their ict skills in a variety of different lessons. We have creative media sessions, which concentrate on using computers in a multitude of artistic ways, alongside lessons focused on resource making for other tutors/students and dedicated e-safety courses.

Clients
Our clients are full time students at Lufton College that have a learning disability. We cater for students on the autistic spectrum and other medical conditions such as Downs syndrome and Williams Syndrome.

Technology used in the Karten Centre
We primarily use desktop pc's to engage the learners alongside the use of touchscreen technology such as i pads and a smart-board that can be utilised by all learners. We have the use of a video camera to capture events at college and Dictaphones to help with practicing their conversation and interviewing techniques.
Assistive Technology
We use communication apps on the iPads such as 'Proloquo2go' and the students bring their own devices with communication apps to use within the session

Additional Information
The Students enjoy using the Karten suite during session time and also in their informal learning hours. Each year the new student cohort display an increasing knowledge of computers and social media and would benefit greatly from updated hardware/software and access to podcasting equipment to develop their ict and communication skills further
