Services/focus of the Karten Centre
To train young people and adults in how to access ICT systems to aid them in there daily lives. The centre facilitates assessments of learners needs with a range of bespoke, adapted and main stream technology. The centre is also designed to support the development of high quality, age appropriate resources in both English and Welsh.

Clients
The centre focuses on learners with specific learning difficulties but has a wide range of technology for learners who may also have physical or visual impairments.
Disabilities
Two completely refurbished rooms with 10 PCs in each room along with a PC for a facilitator and an interactive whiteboard. The PCs are connected to the internet and linked to a file server and dedicated colour laser printers.
Technology used in the Karten Centre
All the computers have a biometric login system which enables us to provide a personalised learning environment and removes the need for a username and passwords. All the computers have access to a range of software including Thunder screen reader, Read and Write 7 Gold, Communicate in Print, communicate by choice Writing with symbols (English & Welsh) and Clicker. Dedicated workstations have access to boardmaker. Each room has a soundfield to aid communications with the learners.
