National Star College

Services/focus of the Karten Centre

Our Karten Centre is located in the heart of our education facilities, and is equipped with workstations with a range of assistive technology. It also contains a revolving accessible Kardex library system. Our Karten Centre provides a mix of open access, and time-tabled sessions, and is available to all learners and staff throughout the week, during evenings and at weekends. A separate room, located near our Reception area, houses our StarPrint social enterprise, providing learners with vital IT and employment skills training. The printing equipment to set up StarPrint was funded by the Karten Trust.

Our learners have complex disabilities. Some are residential and access full-time provision at National Star. Other learners access our day provision, on a full or part time basis.

National Star is a registered charity (220239) working with young people with complex physical and learning disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and autism. The charity enables young people with complex disabilities to realise their potential through education, personalised learning opportunities, and transition and accommodation services. The support we provide is as unique as the individuals we work with, and includes specialist education, training, residential provision, therapies including speech and language therapy and physiotherapy, and access to innovative technology.
