Additional Information
The project aims to develop activities initiated by people who access the service, but it can also be used by community groups and businesses to enhance the effectiveness of their communication. Training and production practice is also available in video format, high-end digital photography, digital and stop frame animation and web design with streaming video.
There are lots of different roles for people to try out and get involved in, both in front of and behind the camera. These roles include writing, storyboarding, scripting, directing, production services, camera operation, lighting, sound recording, vision mixing, linear and non-linear editing, grip operation, set design and building, makeup and special effects.
We enable people to participate in the appreciation, creation, and performance of all styles of music, by using technology alongside traditional instruments, in an accessible recording studio environment. Sessions are personalised so that the person can choose to gain experience of recording, writing, performing and editing in individual or group projects, or simply enjoy a jamming session using innovative technology such as soundbeam or iPads.
Our music department is the home of The Soundbeam Band, which was set up by three service users to enable them to perform live gigs across the North East. So far, they have performed at Chase Park Festival and Under The Dome.
The team regularly write and carry out interviews as well as edit and produce programmes. People who join quickly learn how to work as a team both in front of and behind the microphone. We host a range of podcast styles from radio plays and music shows to documentaries on local history and sports discussions.
Hedleys Print is a commercial printing project that enables disabled adults to experience a real work environment. We provide a full printing service for The Percy Hedley Foundation and have regular returning external customers.
The print unit comprises a separate office and reception area with fully equipped Desk Top Publishing suite leading to the pre-press, printing, finishing and warehousing areas. Hedleys Print aims to provide training and personal development within a stimulating, supportive, friendly but active printing works environment. Our project workers have the opportunity to be involved in the entire printing process. This includes reception duties, planning and design, a variety of printing and finishing techniques, quality control and pricing.
