The Professional Association of Assistive Technologists (PAAT)

We are excited to announce the launch of the Professional Association of Assistive Technologists (PAAT) on Wednesday 1st July 2026!

The Association has been established with a clear mission: to advance Assistive Technology (AT) as a recognised profession and improve outcomes for everyone who relies on it.

PAAT is committed to raising standards across the sector by supporting high-quality service provision, promoting professional recognition, and strengthening the role of the Assistive Technologist. This includes:

  • Improving the quality of Assistive Technology provision for users and their advocates.
  • Raising the professional status of Assistive Technologists.
  • Promoting the independence and integrity of the Assistive Technologist role.
  • Supporting improved education, training and career pathways.
  • Championing consistent professional standards, including a Code of Conduct and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Providing opportunities for peer support, networking and professional collaboration.
  • Building confidence in the quality of Assistive Technology services.
  • Working towards greater recognition of Assistive Technology by commissioners, regulators and partner organisations.

Importantly, PAAT is not intended to replace existing professional bodies in education, health or social care. Instead, it provides a professional home for Assistive Technologists who may not currently have one, while working collaboratively with established membership organisations. Reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of Assistive Technology, PAAT is committed to partnership, collaboration and shared expertise.

Whether you are an experienced practitioner or new to the profession, PAAT offers an opportunity to help shape the future of Assistive Technology and ensure the highest standards of practice for the benefit of AT users and the wider sector.

We hope you will join us as a founding member and help shape the future of the profession. To apply for membership and find out more, please visit the PAAT website.

We look forward to welcoming you to PAAT.
