Services/focus of the Karten Centre
Jewish Care Explore exists to offer support with technology to all adults within the Jewish community. We have two dedicated centres based in Golders Green and Stanmore with equipment available for people to use independently or with support from the team. Help and advice is also available for any questions from how to increase the volume on your mobile phone to support on dedicated technology for a disability or medical condition (subject to assessment).
The team are also available to support Jewish Care tenants, residents, and service members with joining remote and online activities or help internal and external teams make those services accessible to a wider audience through technology.
Dedicated courses are also available from Jewish Care Explore providing a wider range of knowledge on subjects including iPads, laptops and zoom to help people feel more comfortable and independent with the technology they are using.
Jewish Care Explore offer a remote service supporting people over the phone and will happily partner with synagogues and charities to support their communities within their own environment.

Disabilities
Our customer base is defined as digitally excluded older and disabled Jewish
adults. With the natural signs of ageing impacting on sensory acuity, physical
mobility and the ability to process cognitive load, combined with the fact that most
people over the age of 65 will be living with at least one long-term health condition,
we do not feel it necessary for our customers to have to be registered with a
disability to use our services.
We are pan-disability, and segment as follows:
* Visual impairments;
* Hearing impairments;
* Physical disabilities;
* Learning disabilities;
* Mental health issues; and
* Memory loss and dementia
Type/s of disabilties
- Acquired brain injury including stroke
- Cerebral palsy
- Dementia / alzheimer's
- Dyslexia
- Hearing impairment including deafness
- Learning disability
- Limb loss
- Mental health
- Speech or language impairment
- Visual impairment including blindness

Assistive Technology
As our client base is quite broad, our approach is to use both mainstream and basic,
reasonably priced assistive technologies, and work in an integrated way.
We have basic assistive technologies and peripherals for iPad and Android tablets,
such as tripods, wheelchair mounts, table mounts, cases, large print keyboards,
joysticks, switches and speakers.
For both iPad and Android devices, we are using a range of apps, as well as inbuilt
accessibility features.
Our furniture and peripherals for PC users are also designed to be flexible and
adaptable, so that our clients can get the most out of our services; we have
adjustable desks, chairs and screen holders.
