Services/focus of the Karten Centre
Kisharon Langdon was formed in 2023 following the merger of two well-established learning disability charities, Kisharon and Langdon.
Kisharon Langdon uses Karten donated equipment over varying locations, at Kisharon Langdon College and in three social enterprises. As with the holistic nature of our offerings, many individuals access more than one of these provisions weekly. Foundational skills, including commerce are taught and with the use of technology, thanks to Karten, this learning comes to life in the form of high quality businesses.
Below gives an overview of each provision which uses Karten technology:
College
Kisharon Langdon College offers a bespoke education for Jewish people aged 16-24 with learning disabilities, social anxiety and autistic people.
The college educates students in London, 5 days a week:
The curriculum aims to develop students’ literacy, maths, IT, employment, and social skills, enabling them to make their next steps into the world of work and independent living. They enjoy a broad curriculum of activities such as independent living, horticulture, work experience, sport, music, maths and English.
Learning and Enterprise Centre
Our Learning and Development team provides learning support for those who have moderate to severe
learning disabilities who wish to work and continue to develop their key skills within a supported environment. Within this provision, social, literacy, numeracy and IT skills are embedded into all training, volunteering, and work opportunities. The participants in the core course are part of the “enterprise team” specialising in producing food gifts to celebrate Jewish festivals.
New Chapters
Our online second-hand book enterprise consists of a team of 28 people including 10 employed staff members who all have some form of disability.
The Bike Shop
The Kisharon Langdon Bike Shop specialises in rebuilding, fixing, and selling bikes. We combine providing supported work placements and a premium service to the local community. Transferable skills are acquired here with the opportunity for a vocational programme with a trajectory to work in larger companies such as Halfords.

Disabilities
Kisharon Langdon supports people with a wide range of disabilities and needs, from hidden disabilities to Down’s syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Fragile X. Many people we support have profound learning difficulties, often accompanied by motor and other physical needs.

Karten Centre Staff
Across the enterprises which use Karten equipment usually there are approximately 20 members staff. This includes people with learning disabilities and autism.
In Kisharon Langdon college there are 12 staff members.
