Services/focus of the Karten Centre
We provide 24h nursing care, on-site physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, a wheelchair clinic, a rehabilitation kitchen, social and recreational activities, concerts and regular outings. We also offer a chaplaincy service.

Clients
Our clients are our residents, who come to Care for Veterans for long-term residential care, short-term respite, rehabilitation, and end of life care. Each year we care for approximately 125 disabled ex-Service personnel and their families.
Disabilities
The veterans we care for have a wide range of disabilities, with 98% using wheelchairs to aid mobility. We specialise in the rehabilitation and care of people with Acquired Brain Injury or degenerative neurological conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Parkinson's.
Technology used in the Karten Centre
Eye Gaze & accessories, mobile Magic Carpet, iPads, laptop, computers, Apple Mac with Creative Suite, Wii, Nintendo Kinect, switch assessment kit, standing frame with balance trainer, light writers. We also have standardised cognitive and perceptual assessment kits.
Assistive Technology
Grid 3, React 2, Grid Player, Board Maker, Proloquo2Go, Possom Freeway, Skype.
Karten Centre Staff
In terms of clinical staff including occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists, 9. However, there are 160 members of staff at Care for Veterans who have varying degrees of contact with the equipment.
Karten Centre Hours
Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm, with our Social & Recreation department running for an additional Saturday session, every other Saturday, and two additional evenings each week.
Services offered to the Network
Due to diverse resident and case load, technology is used at Care for Veterans therapeutically.
Partnerships
Special Effect have loaned us Eye Gaze systems for two of our residents.
